Regulars agree that the food is first-class and that culinary students really love what they do. Gourmet sandwiches and salads can be had, along with meat and seafood entrees. Protocol is to order at the counter and fetch your own silverware and condiments (thank goodness the prices make this self-service worthwhile!). DOWNTOWN. Bayou Bob's Cajun and Southern specialties will make you feel as if you've got Louisiana roots yourself! Fried catfish, gumbo, crawfish and etouffee are specialties, and there's fried alligator if you're in the mood for something exotic. Other possibilities include red beans and rice, jambalaya, po' boy sandwiches, chicken-fried chicken, oysters and Cajun meatloaf. Come with time to spare, since lines often tend to get a bit long.

LODO. Breckenridge Brewery is all about good eats, beer, and sports. It's a casual hangout where you can catch a game with friends or play a competitive round of pool. Diverse menu offerings include everything from Mexican fare to barbecue and salads ­ something for everyone! Since Breckenridge is a brewpub, they have several signature beers, most of which flow freely on tap. In fact, the brewing process is on display for guests to enjoy.

CHERRY CREEK. A long-time standby, this Mexican restaurant really packs a punch with its tangy salsa, guacamole, and savory pork, chicken and beef tucked into soft tortillas. Self-service is the name of the game, and folks gather to enjoy the tasty fare, much of which features grilled ingredients. Casual atmosphere coupled with low prices makes Chez Jose a great value.
